Little “D” – 21 Days New

On January 21, 2012, Chrissy Winchester gave birth to her second child a beautiful little boy named Derek Donald Winchester, who actually happens to be my tenth cousin on my mother’s side of the family.

I love having a huge family and I am proud to announce that our family is even getting bigger then with adding Derek to the mix, I am going to become an aunt. My sister announced a little over a month ago that she is pregnant and we will soon be adding a new little boy or girl to this crazy family of ours. Make sure you keep a look out for her maternity, newborn, and family portraits this summer.

Back to the Winchester family, on January 27, 2008, Chrissy Winchester gave birth to her first child, Allison Reese Winchester. Allison or Alli for short, is now a proud big sister. As a toddler you can never predict what they will do and Chrissy had asked me that besides just photographing Derek by himself she asked if I could take some of the two kids together. Being a portrait photographer I am always shooting my own family as well. When you have as big of a family as I do you use that to your advantage. Alli is comfortable around me and as a normal toddler your around they will not listen to you every minute of the day. As we were shooting Alli was by her mother’s side the entire time anxious to pose with her new brother. Once it became her time she decided she no longer wanted photos taken of her and began to fuss and not listen. Luckily I got a few photos of them togehter. Next time I have a toddler and a newborn I will make sure I do the sibling/family photos first. Of course the newborn will likely go back to sleep.

Overall it was a great experience, I love photographing newborns and children no matter how hard it can be at times. Make sure you follow along and watch both Derek and Allison grow older. Here are some photos from the session.

WPPI 2012

Have I mentioned how lucky of a girl I truly am? If I haven’t it is about time to confess that I am. In the last week I was lucky enough to attend WPPI, Wedding Portrait Photographers International in Las Vegas for six whole days! That isn’t even the best part, I got to go with eight other amazingly talented photographers including; Emily Taplin from Taplin Photo, Allison Flowers from Allison Flowers Photography, Kiana McCrackin from Kiana McCrackin Photography, Niki Simmons from Niki Simmons Photography, Lauren Kanegawa from Lauren Kanegawa Photography, Michael Fan from Michael Fan Photography, Brian Finck from Brian Finck Photography and lastly Daniel Heeger from DBPH Photography.

As a group we called ourselves “The Battery Pack”.

If I wasn’t already lucky enough to travel with all of these amazing people but I met some pretty amazing ones as well. While learning photography I have found some funny and interesting looks upon it including Missy Mwac. An amazing woman who brings the humor into portrait and wedding photography. We were all lucky enough to meet her and take a picture with her. Thank you so much Missy Mwac, it was great to finally meet you, you truly are a ROCKSTAR! Everyone must check out her videos!

Lastly I got to attend to some seminars with some outstanding photographers who have already and will continue to have a remarkable impact on my life.  I first met Joe Buissink, a very talented wedding photographer who really touched me with my passion and made me cry multiple times. You truly know your doing something you love if it makes you cry at the snap of a finger. I spoke to him afterwards and asked if he was looking for anymore Brooks graduates to work with. He told me to email him so let’s all cross our fingers and see what he has to say. I also say The Boudoir Divas speak who definitely have a different outlook on photography but was interested in what they had to say and taught me great marketing skills. I also got to listen to two other amazing photographers and people, Tim Meyer and Arthur Rainville. These are two people that I would not be where I am today without them. They know how to break you down and make you cry, and get emotion out of the people you are capturing. Their inspirational time was great the second time around. I am lucky enough to have Tim by my side almost everyday and pick his brain about my work. Arthur I am so excited that I got to see you again and cannot wait till we reunite. Another amazing photographer was Elizabeth Messina who is a wedding photography who truly loves light and understands it. She was nice enough to show us one of her best friend’s wedding photos that she took and who is my main inspiration, Jose Villa! I feel as if I have been saying this about everyone but Jose is an outstanding man, photographer, friend, and business man! I was lucky enough to even attend his seminar at WPPI and for him to inspire me even more than he did before but after listening to him speak he reminded me that photography is my passion, I do it because I love it and it makes me happy. It is important that my work makes me happy not anyone else. If someone comes to me to do their portraits that means they trust me enough to do what I want to create photos for them for a lifetime. My friend and fellow photographer Allison Flowers was lucky enough to intern with Jose Villa for two days and became quite good friends with him. She was nice enough to take us to meet him the next day at the trade show. I literally was so nervous to meet him that I was shaking. Before I began interning with the photographer I interned with, Marisa Leigh, I asked Josse if I could intern with him but sadly he already had enough interns at that time. To be able to take in what he has experienced and his love of photography was just amazing but being able to meet him just took another check off my Bucket List. One day he will be my wedding photographer, I better start saving up because he does not come cheap!

Overall I think all of you can tell I had an amazing experience at my first WPPI! I can’t wait to go again next year and take in everything again! I am such a lucky person! Thank you to everyone that made it possible for me and my fellow photographers to attend it!

New Gadgets

Who doesn’t love new items no matter if you are a photographer or not everyone loves getting new things. Since christmas is ending and my birthday is vastly approaching I figured I would post some really interesting gadgets/gifts that I am in love with. Personally I love new camera related gifts, it is amazing what is available now-a-days.

For Christmas my grandparents bought me a Nikon camera lens mugs. Yes, a lens mug. It is one of the coolest things I know I probably even sound like a complete nerd right now but it is true. The first time I had seen one of these was at school and a teacher was carrying a lens (or what all of us students thought was a lens) then all of a sudden he puts his lens to his mouth and everyone in the class began to freak out. Little did he know none of us knew what a lens mug was and then he explained. I knew I needed one! Luckily I got one and I can’t wait to us it and fool everyone!

A few days before Christmas my brother told me that my present may not be here in time for christmas and I told him that was fine. Was he excited to have me see what he got me though, I think he was more excited then myself. He even wanted me to guess what he got me and he gave me hints like; it was photo related but not photography gear. So I began to rack my brain what would it be. I actually said to him is it a Nikon Lens Mug? Nope, little did I know in his head he was freaking out thinking I was going to guess what he actually got me. I couldn’t figure it out. To make a long story short it ended up arriving on Christmas Eve and he made me open it that night. It was Nikon Lens Shot Glasses, a set of three. It was hilarious, now I’m not a drinking but it was great and he thought it was so funny.

Something I don’t own but I wish I did because it is one of the greatest creations ever! When I begin a shoot I set everything up and grab my camera and take off the lens cap. But where do I place the lens cap? Pretty much anywhere that is free, if I have pockets I usually will place them there but if I don’t I will place it in my purse or my camera bag, anywhere available but the problem is, I forget where I place it and at the end of a shoot I begin to freak out where I put it. This is great and I really need it so I can always put my lens cap on it and never forget where I put it. A lens cap strap holder!

The last thing that I received for Christmas is a new camera strap. I’m a girl who loves to accesorize. So I needed a new stylish strap. For those of you who don;t know me I am obsessed with the color neon green and zebra print. So of course I needed a strap to be like that. I searched everywhere for a camera strap that was a strap to a strap cover because that has velcro and I knew that would stick to my hair. I finally founded one and asked my mother for it for Christmas and she got me exactly what I wanted! It was great and I love it!

Wonder if I will get any fun new gadgets for my birthday? I hope so! Their so much fun! The Lens Mug, Shot Glasses, and Lens Cap Strap Holder can all be found at Photojojo! along with other fabulous gadgets and gifts. The Strap can be found at Phat Straps.

Little Critters

As most of you know my passion for photography began with nature, landscapes, and wildlife. I am in love with going outside and finding my subject of the day. I have been lucky to have the amazing opportunity of going to my second critter demo. Since I have freshened my blog and deleted all of my old posts I am first going to post my new photos of the critter demo and then post a few from my last critter demo which was almost a year ago. This is such an amazing experience and a little frightening at first but all you have to do is get over your fears and have fun.
